Plummer Gateway Highway District is currently seeking applications for the position of Operator.

JOB DESCRIPTION: CREWMEMBERS - OPERATOR


NATURE OF WORK
Under close supervision, maintain District roads in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

​

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all crewmembers, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Operate a variety of trucks (with manual and automatic transmissions), equipment and hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; learn to maintain vehicles and equipment according to District standards.

  • Performs traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follows safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices; duties may vary according to job assignment.

  • Performs basic road repair and maintenance tasks; reports safety hazards and traffic problems.

  • Performs manual labor assignments as needed, including foliage maintenance and snow and debris removal.

  • Responds to emergencies as directed and performs tasks in the interest of public safety and property protection during emergencies.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed outdoors at construction sites, maintenance facilities and outside environments with exposure to inclement weather. Moderate physical demands; strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to seventy five (75) pounds; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
High school diploma or GED equivalent, AND one (1) year construction, road maintenance, and/or manual labor experience.

Must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must be able to acquire a CDL tanker endorsement (N), an Idaho State Control Flagger card and complete First Aid/CPR training programs within 90 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Grasp, lift and maneuver hand tools, power tools, equipment and materials, of various weights and sizes, in a manner which is safe and effective during the performance of work.

  • Basic knowledge of equipment mechanics and/or maintenance, i.e. oil changes, filter changes, tire changes,

  • Physically endure vibration, jarring, and bouncing while operating equipment over an extended amount of time.

  • Develop a working knowledge of general District operations and procedures.

  • Understand and comply with written and oral instructions.

  • Work within established guidelines with little direct supervision.

  • Work in a high dust environment for an extended amount of time.

  • Perform physically demanding labor outdoors in all kinds of weather.

  • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.

  • Climb, walk, sit, bend and stoop to perform job duties.

  • Work cooperatively with other employees and the general public.

  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

  • Must work flexible hours and weekends due to weather.
     

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have strong customer service attitude toward fellow employees and the general public. Pre-employment drug testing is required, and employees will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment.

Must live within twenty (20) minutes of the Plummer Gateway Highway District.
